Canon Point: Beginning of Batman RIP (circa Robin 175)
World Information: Tim comes from a version of Earth - creatively named New Earth. New Earth is fairly similar in geography to our reality with the addition of the Underwater continent of Atlantis, a few extra countries and cities such as Metropolis and Gotham City. The existence of Hyper Time, time-travel, multiple alternate realities and a few other things also set it aside from our reality.
New Earth has something else our reality doesn't: superheroes. The Superhero community is made up largely of metahumans, people born with the metagene which gives them superhuman abilities such as telepathy, flight, energy projection - even some physical changes such as tails and fur. There are also humans with access to magical abilities that don't come from a metagene. Of course, not everyone with a metagene or magic chooses to fight crime - some of them chose to use their powers for self-gain and evil.
On top of metahumans, there are also a large number of extraterrestrial races - Martians and Kryptonians only a couple - as well as Gods (New and Old) and immortal Amazonian warrior women and many more.
However, not all heroes have superpowers or magic or alien abilities. Some of New Earth heroes are just humans. Team Arrow and the Bat Family are both made up almost exclusively of non-metahumans.
Many heroes have come together to form teams. The Justice League, Teen Titans and Young Justice are just a few of many teams. The Justice League is a team of New Earth's strongest and most iconic heroes, they are Earth's first line of defense against all the weird and wonderful threats. The Teen Titans are a group of young heroes, many of whom are also sidekicks to older heroes, who have come together to fight crime. Young Justice was a team of young heroes originally composed of Impulse, Superboy and the third Robin - the 'core four' of the team later went on to become Teen Titans.
Gotham City is the most important location to discuss in regards to Tim's setting. Gotham is a city firmly in the hands of corruption, crime and villains that stretch from a psychotic clown to a woman with the ability to control plants. Gotham is also the birthplace of Bruce Wayne, who following the murder of his parents, became Batman and stepped in to protect the city from the criminals and villains that just kept evading the police, worked under their radar, or worse, worked with them. Batman has worked both alone and had a number of partners - Robins.
Tim was Robin three of five and didn't lose his parents until after taking up the mantle unlike his predecessors. He was the boy who figured out who Batman and Robin were, who made Bruce realise Batman needed a Robin. He was trained by Batman and many others to become more than just the normal geeky kid from Gotham Heights with exceptional intelligence and detective skills. Just like Bruce, Tim doesn't have any powers - but he's damn good at what he does. He might not be Robin any more, but he continues to fight for Gotham and the world. He has worked as a member of Young Justice and the Teen Titans, proving your don't need to be meta to be a superhero.
There have been a large number of events that have shaped New Earth. Naturally, not all of them are important to Gotham City or Tim himself. Three of the most important events that have occurred and had large impacts on Tim's setting are:
Identity Crisis: Following the murder of Sue Dibny, wife of the hero the Elongated Man, the superhero community rallied in order to find her killer. The villain, Doctor Light is the primary suspect and during the hunt for him it is revealed that his memory and the memory of a few other villains, had been wiped by the sorceress Zatanna. It is also revealed that Batman's memory of this had been wiped as he had disapproved of the move. Light regains his memories during a fight and escapes; following this there is an attempt on the Atom's wife, Lois Lane is threatened and Tim's father, Jack Drake is murdered. It is finally found that the wife of the Atom was responsible for the whole thing, even going as far as to fake the attempt on her life, simply to get her husband back in her life. She is detained in Arkham. Batman learns about his memory wipe, and his new distrust of the community leads to him creating a satellite to monitor Earth's metahumans.
War Games: Batman developed a scenario to unite Gotham's underworld under one man, Matches Malone, who just happens to be Batman himself. Stephanie Brown finds the plan after being fired from her position as Robin and in a desperate attempt to regain Batman's trust, she implements the plan, not realising that Batman and Matches Malone were the same person. She assembles all the gangs in one place and when Matches doesn't show up, it starts a massive gang war that allows Black Mask to seize control of Gotham's criminals. In the aftermath of the event, vigilantes were made criminals for a year and Batman was caught on camera and stopped being just an urban legend. Stephanie Brown also 'died'. It is later revealed her death was faked by Dr Thomson to teach Batman and the youth of Gotham how dangerous the life was.
Infinite Crisis: A multidimensional event that brought characters from different worlds in the multiverse to Earth. Their plans eventually lead to the death of Conner Kent at the hands of the Superboy from Earth Prime (who was later imprisoned by the Green Lanterns) and the merging of all realities into New Earth. This allowed for a number of characters to be brought back from the dead - such as Jason Todd - as well as some small changes to be made to the history of some characters.
Personality: Tim has gone through a lot and his experiences throughout his time as Robin have changed him, his personality, his conviction, and his beliefs irrevocably.
Tim has never been the physically superior Robin – when he started he lacked the streets smarts to compete with his predecessors and while he has gotten physically stronger, Tim’s true strength lies in his intelligence. Out of all the Robins, Tim is by far the most intelligent and cerebral. He is a natural born detective and was able to determine Batman’s secret identity by himself at the age of nine. His strength lies in doing the brain work of the vigilante job – though he wouldn’t turn down a chance to be in the thick of things. Tim’s intelligence and detective skills have lead a few to believe he will one day surpass Bruce.
Tim is a driven, determined individual. Anything he starts, he will see to the end, no matter what it takes – he doesn’t know how to give up, especially if he knows that he has the skills to draw on to achieve his goals. Along that same line, however, Tim is driven by a fear of failure. Ever since first donning the Robin suit, he has feared failing the legacy he stepped into, but also failing the people he stands to protect, Batman, and of course, himself. Tim sets himself high standards and he does not plan to fail. To this extent, Tim is always planning three steps ahead and multiple back-up plans – he would say he doesn’t plan for the future, but that would be a lie, just as saying he will one day give up the mask. If he fails, and especially if people or hurt or killed as a result of that failure, Tim blames himself, and he carries the guilt; oftentimes, Tim has to be convinced that something isn’t his fault before he’ll let the guilt slide, and even then it is always a burden he will carry.
As comes standard with the Bat name, Tim has a strong moral compass. He cares about innocent lives and though he may hunt down criminals, it is always to bring them to justice by the law, not by his hands. Tim’s first instinct is not to kill criminals and villains, but to take them down and allow the law to handle them. He carries any deaths that are a result of his action as a heavy burden. Still, it’s fair to say that he thinks sometimes it would be better if some villains were just killed rather than allowed to return to the world over and over again – a problem made worse by the possibility of resurrection.
Tim has always had the ability to detach himself emotionally from a situation in order to gain more insight and do his job better, but this has been tested by the recent string of loss in his life. Tim has actively sought out certain criminal organisations in order to further his own goal of cloning his friend back. He is also not always able to control his anger and his growing need for vengeance that did not exist when he first became Robin – often his feelings will be taken out on some poor thug in the wrong place at the wrong time, and sometimes it will cloud his judgement. However, this ability has become an invaluable tool since he has returned to the Teen Titans – detaching himself and hiding his feelings has helped him to run the team and continue to keep secrets from them.
He has also always been a bit of an introvert and a loner, who values his independence – a trait made worse in recent years. Despite working on teams, Tim has always preferred to be somewhat separate from the main body of the team. Most times, he has been leader of the teams he has worked on, and he is good at being a leader – his intelligence and skills as a tactician make running a team easy for him. Still, he has remained largely on the sidelines emotionally, and i t is more than fair to say that Tim is no longer very good at making and keeping friends, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have friends. He has only allowed a few people to get truly close to him – people who he is fiercely loyal and protective of. Arguably, the people he is closest to are Superboy and Nightwing, who he almost trusts unconditionally and is more likely to admit his problems to. When he makes true bonds with people, they are deep bonds that can sometimes be detrimental to him. Detrimental because when he loses those closest to him – family and friends – it breaks him down; following the losses of his father, girlfriend and best friend, Tim dealt with the loss particularly bad. Even two years after his father's death the anniversary of his murder is a hard day and Tim was shown to have a hard time not letting it get to him, even during a mass breakout at Arkham.
Tim’s losses have made him more emotionally vulnerable, and thus more determined to hide his feelings. He has always preferred to keep his problems to himself and often has to be pushed to share his concerns, even with his best friend who he trusts above anyone else. For a short while, the loss also made him desperate and his loneliness almost lead to him being seduced by Ra’s al Ghul to exchange a life of servitude for the chance to bring back his loved ones. He also tried to clone Superboy back to life because he needed something back. With the help of his close friends and family, however, Tim was able to see through his grief and understand the mistakes he was making.
His line of work has always called for more secrecy than other heroes, and this is something he has resented as he has grown closer to people. Tim does not like lying or secrets, no matter how much he knows they are required. They have always caused tension when it comes to his life out of the mask – he never enjoyed lying to his father and doesn’t enjoy lying to his friends and has never been able to hold down a girlfriend. But in this respect, Tim is a bit of a hypocrite as he is prone to lying even when it's not just to keep his identity secret.
Thanks to the emotional strain and the dedication he has to his job, many of Tim’s relationships, long term and otherwise can be somewhat strained or even a little fake. Outside of the mask, Tim has very few friends and the relationships he does have with them have been tested almost one too many times. He has lost many of his friends to his secret life and finds it hard make and keep new ones – there are few people who he is close to that do not know his secret. Tim's friends, in fact, exist mostly within the hero world now, and in the absence of Superboy and Kid Flash, he is still closest to Wondergirl. His longest friend outside of the mask, Ives, has somehow stood by him through everything.
Despite this, Tim appears to have a whole other side to him. It is likely mostly down to being exceptional at acting that Tim manages to pass as a normal teenager when it comes to living out his school life. He is able to have a group of 'friends' at school and to pass normally; though he has also shown an ability to always keep his nose out of schoolmates business - for instance he couldn't help his curiosity when it came to his friend Ives' sudden reappearance at school after being home schooled for some time.
Tim is, in actual fact, somewhat scared of what he has become and how much more he will change. He always promised himself he wouldn’t become closed off and obsessed like Bruce, but this is something that has already started to happen. That said, Tim is also scared by the potential future he and the Titans travelled to, in which he was a gun-toting Batman, unafraid of killing criminals. Not only is the nature of that future version of himself terrifying, but Tim has never planned on becoming Batman and the thought that one day he might have to scares him as well.
Abilities, Weaknesses, and Power Limitations: Despite not being a meta, Tim is not your ordinary human.
Peak Human Conditioning: Through continuous intense training, Tim possesses peak level strength, stamina, speed, reflexes and agility for a teenager. He can lift twice his body weight and can also use a grapple without injury thanks to intensive workouts. He is also a master acrobat, though not quite on the same level as Dick Grayson.
Martial Arts Master: Tim has mastered various martial arts including Ninjustu, Karate, Judo, Aikido, Jujitsu and Bojutsu, his preferred method of fighting (with his staff). He has learned from many people including Batman and Lady Shiva and absorbed and adapted their styles into his own. He is able to work out an enemies weak points in moments and take advantage of them.
Genius Level Intellect: Naturally smart, Tim excels in computer science and is not only a master detective but also an incredibly skilled hacker. He has figured out the identity of various superheroes by himself. Coupled with his skills as a strategist, he is also able to stay steps ahead of villains as well as be able to think on the spot. It has been said that he is smarter than Batman himself, and suggested that he possesses far beyond normal mental concentration and mental focusing ability that allows him to think and calculate beyond most human beings. Tim also has sound almost-degree level knowledge of various sciences including biology, engineering and genetics, and techniques associated with them.
Tim is also a skilled escape artist and also speaks several languages beyond English, including Cantonese, Russian, Spanish and German.
Inventory: His red and black Robin outfit, complete with fully kitted out utility belt (which includes many gadgets including but not limited to; grapple gun, flash light, R shurikens, bolas, a small piece of Kryptonite, smoke and flash-bang bombs, rebreather) and a collapsible bo-staff.
Appearance: In uniform; civvies.

Network Sample: [The omni-tool was new and pretty cool technology, but it didn't take Tim long to figure out it's basic ins and outs. After a good fifteen minutes catching up with other posts on the extranet and getting a good lay of the land, he boots up his own video entry. He's without the mask, so looking like a fairly normal if well groomed teenager.]
This obviously isn't Physics with Prof Wilkins, although it would be the most amazing setting for a lesson ever. But uh, Earth to Tim Drake, this stuff only happens in comics. I take it this extranet thing is like twitter or something, but higher tech?
So. Anyone else suddenly wake up here and wonder what they ate before bed?
